Jiný kraj, jiný mrav, jiné zvyky
O oslavách velikonočních svátků to platí dvojnásob.

¡Feliz Pascua!

Easter is generally a time for chocolate and religion here. Every Easter, children receive lots of chocolate eggs (symbolizing birth in the Springtime), chocolate rabbits and chicks. The children will also get new clothes. This was used in the past for when children went to church on East Sunday. As many people are not into religion these days, the tradition of new clothes still carries on.
Children in primary school (6 – 10 years of age) will make Easter bonnets (a type of hat) which they will then receive small gifts for their work.
On Easter Sunday, some people will go to church to celebrate the Christian aspect of this holiday. When they return, eggs may be hidden around the garden or home for the children to find, this is the Easter Egg Hunt. Later in the day there is usually films especially for children to watch and they will also have a traditional Sunday lunch.
On Easter Monday, the children will visit their aunts and uncles, who may also give them chocolate eggs.

Zazwyczaj przed południem udajemy się do kościoła, by poświęcić pokarmy.

My Easter in The South
Small green buds begin to appear on tips of branches while birds return to sing their songs. Daffodils, tulips and dogwood blossoms seem to erupt in a cascade of color. Spring has arrived and that means it’s time for Easter.
One weekend in March or April, determined by the Luna calendar, Easter is celebrated in the United States. I won’t speak for the entire country but would like to share what my Easters were like growing up in The South.
Like many holidays, Easter has two sides, secular and religious. My family participated in both. Easter weekend was an anticipated time for both fun and solemn events.
Easter egg hunts are usually held the Saturday before Easter or just after lunch on Sunday. I remember my momma making hard boiled eggs for me to dye, decorate, and take to the community egg hunt. Or sometimes, we would use bright colored plastic eggs filled with chocolate and other candies. The adults would hide the eggs and the children would look for them with prizes being given for the one who found the most eggs or the prize egg. Then there’s the Easter Bunny.
Think Santa but with big fuzzy ears and a cottontail. A large, white, rabbit who, on Sunday morning, would leave an Easter basket filled with chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks, and small toys outside your door. Of course it was really just momma and daddy.
For American Christians, Easter represents the heart of their faith.
This is what my family believed and celebrated. The culmination of Easter week is Easter Sunday and it started very early. We would wake up while it was still dark, dress in our new outfits and make our way to the hill behind our church for the Sunrise Service. There, we would meet up with other families from the church and sing hymns of praise to God for the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus as the sun slowly rose for a new day. Next we would hurry to the church’s fellowship hall to get warm and have a wonderful breakfast.
Easter Sunday services were always wonderful with special music, dramas, and lots of joy as we remembered the amazing thing Jesus did for us.
After church services, the celebration continued as my family gathered at my grandmother’s house for our big Easter dinner. Ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, buttermilk biscuits, sweet tea, and fresh, homemade coconut cake. I remember us sitting around the kitchen table as sunshine streamed in from all sides that seemed to illuminate the feast before us. There was so much love in that room. And that is what Easter is really about. So much love.
Details of decorations, or hymns, or the lunch menu may not be same all across the U.S., but no matter how someone chooses to celebrate, Easter was and is a time of hope, joy, and new life.
